Meta-Tags
A meta-tag
is a special HTML tag that provides information about a Web page.
Unlike normal HTML tags, they do not affect how the page is displayed.
Instead, they
provide information such as who created the page, how often it
is updated, what
the page is about and which keywords represent the page content.
Many search engines use this information
when building their indices, but not all. When the search engine
sends
out it's "spider",
it's looking at meta-tags as well as text. Meta-tags are extremely
important.
The keyword
tag contains a list of keywords for which you think a person might
search. You can include as many keywords as you want, but too
many are not recommended. The more keywords you use, the less
effective each keyword is. Put the most important keywords first.
Also, don't use the same word more than 3 times or the search
engine might refuse your meta-tags!
The description
meta-tag is a sentence that best describes your site. It is recommended
that this stay under 200 characters.
